Is the rain in Japan like.... poisonous? Why are colds so fatal in anime?

Plot device. While sickness can be more dangerous in Japan (they wore face masks pre-COVID because it’s easy to spread), anime colds are more like the flu.

The result is the same - so you can easily write whatever shit you want by having someone take care of a sick person.

In anime they always get a cold after being caught in the rain, so it's ... well basically impossible to be the flu. Unless the rain somehow is infected with it. Which... yet again, is impossible ( I think).

My point is... Even the worst fuken cold or flu or anything related to health that I ever had never brought me so close to death as do common colds in anime.

I think its do to there work ethic, what we would stay home over they throw on a mask and tough out. They dont consider it a cold till it is that bad. Do to this they will keep pushing themselves till they drop. Like how sleeping at your desk is seen as a good thing at jobs, as it means you pushed yourself to the limit.
That said there is a almost paranoia of getting cold from the rain and needing to warm up in a bath. I kind of wonder if its a local strain of a virus that needs your body to be cold to take hold.

I'm kinda the same tbh, one drop of rain and I'll be sneezing the entire day lol.
